- Silicone plugs are sized by punctal opening range — Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large.
- Absorbable inserts are sized by plug diameter — 0.2 mm through 0.5 mm.
- For absorbable inserts, the measured punctal opening less 0.2 mm approximates canaliculus diameter.
- Begin with the smallest gauge and step up until it fits snugly with slight resistance.
