We all know that regular exercise keeps our body fit. Have you ever imagined that it can happen to our vision too. It doesn't matter whether we have perfect vision or we are experiencing disease symptoms the following problems can be eased if we hit the gym or take a brisk walk.

AMD (age related macular degeneration)

Vision loss caused by AMD is devastating and cureless. However some research suggests that AMD can be prevented by doing some physical activity, especially exercise like running can reduce the risk of AMD. Retinal function can be prevented by doing some aerobic exercises. It also increases the level of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) which is known as growth factor.

Diabetic Retinopathy

In US, especially in working age adults, diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of vision loss. Physical activity keeps diabetes under control. It also reduces complications like diabetic retinopathy.

Glaucoma

Exercise lowers intraocular pressure and it also improves blood flow to the optic nerve and to the retina. Doing exercises like weight lifting and jogging also has additional benefits. Also be careful on one side holding the breath while lifting a weight can increase intraocular pressure. Doing regular modern outdoor activities is beneficial both for eyes and body. Consult your doctor if you have any doubt.
