Decorative contact lenses, the other term used for costume contact lenses, are used for changing the appearance of our eyes. They change the pupil shape or eye color. Some of the examples are cat eyes, zombie eyes, black sclera lenses and blackout contacts. These lenses are made with or without power.

Buying a lens without prescription is very dangerous as it can blind our eyes and so it is always advisable to wear it after consulting a doctor. Colored contact lenses are like add-ons. They add extra effects to the costume and can be worn during times like Halloween.

Damage caused by costume contact lenses:

Non prescription contact lenses are very dangerous to our eyes. If they don’t fit properly, they can cut or infect our eyes. It can also cause conditions like keratitis, a bacterial infection, corneal ulcer, corneal abrasion etc. They also do not supply enough oxygen to the eyes because of their thickness and less breathability.

It is surveyed that many people have become blind because of poor quality costume lenses. If it damages the cornea, a corneal transplant is the only option for a good vision.

Proper wear and care must be practiced by a lens wearer and also the risks associated with it. Always use FDA approved contact lenses.

Eye exam for costume contact lenses:

During the examination the eyes are measured to make the contacts fit properly. People who suffer from severe allergies, eye infections and dry eyes are not even suitable for wearing regular contact lenses. The ophthalmologist also instructs us for proper maintenance of the lenses.
