LASIK Surgery: Transforming Vision and Enhancing Quality of Life

Posted by Accuspire on Jul 3rd 2023

LASIK is the abbreviation for laser in-situ keratomileusis. It is a popular surgery which is done to correct vision problems such as farsightnedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism.

Every laser surgery employs corneal reshaping. Cornea is nothing but the clear front part of the eye. The light passing through cornea has to properly focus on retina, which is located back of the eye.

There are many advantages if LASIK surgery. LASIK is around 25 years and successful. The success rate is 96 percent. It can be further increased by an enhancement. Very little pain is associated with LASIK due to the numbing drops used. Vision is corrected very soon. There is no requirement of bandage or stitches. Enhancements can be made further to correct the vision after ageing. There is no need of contact lens or eyeglasses after LASIK.

At the same time, it is technically a difficult process. Things may go wrong and problems may occur while creating a flap. This is why one must choose an experienced surgeon to perform LASIK.

It is also to be noted that there will be some side effects after performing a LASIK surgery such as glare, difficulty in driving at night, fluctuating vision, dry eyes and seeing distortion around images.

Prior to a LASIK surgery, surgeon checks all your medical records. The eyes will be fully examined. Initial tests such as refraction, corneal mapping, pupil dilation, measuring corneal thickness and eye pressure are done. One should not wear contact lenses for at least three weeks before a LASIK surgery. Also dot forget to take you eyeglass to the surgeon for examining your power. Before the surgery eat lightly and do not wear any eye makeup.

During LASIK surgery, instrument known as fematosecond laser is used to make flap in cornea. It is then painlessly peeled back. The corneal tissue is then reshaped by the help of another laser, so that the light focused on retina is correct. Finally the corneal flap is put back. No needle is injected to sedate the patient and only local anaesthesia is used in the form of drops.
