Kitchen Eye Safety Tips

We are well aware that good nutrition is very important for eyes as well as a healthy body. There is also a direct connection between eye safety and food. Always make sure that your eyes are safe while working on a kitchen.

When we are cooking on a kitchen, there is a chance of hot cooking oil and grease getting splattered easily on eyes. It is important to be preventive by wearing safety goggles, if not, use a lid at least while you are cooking on a pan or grease shield.

If by chance, hot grease gets splashed on eyes, flush your eyes using water immediately. Make sure that tiny particles and grease are not present inside the eyes. If there is excessive pain and serious injury consult a doctor immediately. Artificial tears are used to comfort the eyes if the splash is minor. It must be noted that one must not use anti-redness eye drops as it can cause further infection. Acidic food liquids causes burning and tearing feeling in eyes and even raw chicken liquid contain infection causing organisms.

Spices like jalapeno peppers stay on the fingers after usage and will irritate eyes if rubbed and so it is important to wash the hands clean after handling any kind of food, vegetable and spices etc. in case if spices get into your eyes, flush the eyes with plenty of water. One can also use baby shampoo to was the eyelids and avoid using soap.

Cleaning products like chemicals, bleach, oven cleaners are also dangerous for our eyes. Sometimes it can cause severe eye injuries. If you get in contact with these liquids, use plenty of water to rinse the eyes and seek medical attention. Be extra attentive while using sharp objects like knives, forks etc.
