​Is Dry Eyes or Tear Dysfunction Syndrome similar or different?

Dry eyes, ranging from mildly irritating to debilitating, has become one of the common problems affecting many. The tear layers in the eye not only protects the cornea and conjunctiva from damage, when continuously exposing it to air, but is also responsible for focused vision. Both the terms Dry Eyes and Tear Dysfunction Syndrome are same, but many think that they are different.

Giacomina Massaro-Giordano, an ophthalmologist, in this video explains the root cause of Tear Dysfunction Syndrome and the initiation of any medication. Tears perform various tasks, but the major one is creating a smooth visual surface in the eyes to focus sharply.

Before prescribing any medicine, it is important to dig deeper, the cause of dry eyes as the eye drops make the eye dry.
