Some of the drugs prescribed for erectile dysfunction are sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil. They are known as phosphodiesterase type inhibitors, increase blood flow to penis and maintain erection. It is very effective but one should also keep in mind about its side effects too.

Side effects of ED medication:

Some of the side effects are common among users and they are; blurry vision, difficulty in differentiating colors, decreased color vision, sensitivity to light etc. Mostly these side effects are temporary and do not cause any harm to the eyes. But if these side effects are there for a long time, consult your doctor.

Ed medication and existing eye problems:

Non- arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy or NAION causes vision loss suddenly in one eyes and this condition occurs when blood flow to optic nerve is not adequate or blocked. People having diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease are susceptible to this disease. Many of the people who have NAION take ED medication. It is also observed that some people get NAION after taking medication for ED and this proves that there is a connection between ED medication and NAION. Sometimes when people having NAION take ED medication, there is a risk of blood pressure getting lowered.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP):

This condition affects the retina and causes vision loss slowly. It is a genetic disease caused by a mutation gene which makes PDE6 enzyme. ED drugs usually inhibit PDE5 but sometimes they also inhibit PDE6. This can harm their vision. Consult your doctor before taking ED medication.
