Dry Eyes Symptoms And Its Relation With Prescribed Blood Pressure Medication

Posted by Accuspire on Dec 13th 2018

The drug market is hoarded with huge amount of blood pressure medicines. It is a literal truth that every drug has its side effect and it becomes impossible to keep a record on it. One of the major problem caused by the blood pressure medication is dry eyes.

Diuretics, beta blockers, renin inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) are some of the prescribed medications for blood pressure which surely affects the moisture in eyes and the tear stability to some extent.

Diuretics

This is one of the most commonly prescribed medicine for blood pressure. It is also called as ‘water pills’ designed to increase the amount of salt and water expelled from the body. This drug helps to reduce the amount of fluid in blood vessels and helps reduce blood pressure. They are divided into three categories:

  • Loop
  • Potassium – sparing
  • Thiazide

The tear stability is compromised leading to itchy and dry eyes.

Beta Blockers

They are also known as beta-adrenergic blocking agents and work by blocking the effects of the hormone epinerphrine also known as adrenaline. With the ingestion of beta blocking medication, the body responds slowly. However it causes damage to the eyes by disabling the tear producing capacity of the body.

Renin Inhibitors

They block an enzyme renin by stimulating the process that helps regulate blood pressure. These inhibitors bind to the active site of rennin and inhibit the binding. Renin concentration tends to be higher in younger people when vascocontriction is the main reason.

Calcium channel blockers

They help to relax blood vessels and increase the supply of oxygen and blood to heart, reducing heart’s workload. Amlodipine (Norvasc) is a best example for calcium blockers.

What we should do?

We must be well aware of the symptoms of blood pressure. The Bruder’s moist heat eye compress is best in providing instant relief. It heals the eyes by easing the dryness and hydrating the eyes.

The Bruder’s moist heat eye compress uses Medibeads technology that draws air and penetrates deeply. Just 10 minutes is enough to compress it on closed eyes. The Bruders moist heat eye compress should be microwaved for 20-30 seconds before using over eyes. Apply the mask on regular basis for a persistent relief.
