If a person is wearing contact lenses, cleaning it regularly and storing it in a clean container containing neat solution is very important.

Causes of corneal ulcer:

They are caused by infections like bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic. Contact lens wearers are commonly affected by bacterial infections because of extended usage of lenses and unclean lens usage. It is also caused by the same virus which is responsible for causing cold sore. It is also caused by chicken pox and shingle causing virus. Steroid eye drops and improper contact lens usage causes fungal infection in eyes, leading to corneal ulcer. Fungal keratitis is caused when pollen grains get into the eyes damaging the cornea.

Parasitic infection is another type which is caused by Acanthamoeba. It is a single celled and microscopic, commonly found in soil and fresh water. It causes infection particularly for lens users.
